This is a French barrette mechanism, which may look very similar to most barrette mechanisms, but unless the
Hallmark is stamped "MADE IN FRANCE", the mechanism is probably a cheap Eastern knock off. Typically,
cheaper barrettes announce 'French style barrettes', but keep in mind, that 'French style' is not 'Genuine French'.
This essential part of the barrette either makes or breaks the barrette quality.
Cheaper mechanisms have a tendency to slip, fall apart, or simply break. Often the releases malfunction or stick.
This is do to the weak material, and loose construction of the mechanism itself.
French barrettes are made of thicker higher quality material, and the mechanisms are designed to last.
When shopping for barrettes, always inspect the mechanism and make sure the hallmark is present.
When purchasing hair barrettes online, ask if the barrette mechanism is hallmarked "Made in France".
